Frequently Asked Questions:

Q. How can I offer feedback about Dining Services?

A. Dining Services supports Keene State College with Resident and Retail dining options as well as Catering, Athletic Concessions and Vending services.  If you’d like to offer feedback about any of our locations or services or if you have questions or comments, please share!

Q. What options does my Meal Plan provide—and how do I access them?

A. Your Owl Card (KSC Student ID) is your key to access your meal plan—and only you may use it. Your meal plan provides 19, 12, or 5 meals per week (up to 3 per day) from Sunday through Saturday. It can be used for meals at the Zorn Dining Commons (a.k.a. “The DC”) and the Hoot-n-Scoot, and in the L.P. Young Student Center at the Night Owl Café (a.k.a. “The NOC” or “Sizzler”).  If you have a Premium Meal Plan, it includes Meal Plan Dollars that you may also use to purchase menu and snack items at any of these locations plus Lloyd’s Marketplace and the Bean & Bagel, both located in the Student Center Food Court.

Q. Where can I dine on campus?

A. We’ve got choices!  Please visit our Locations & Menus page for more information.

Q. What are your hours of operation?

A. All of our dining locations have different operating hours so you can be sure to find a meal or snack when you need one.  Visit our Locations & Menus page for specifics.

Q. What's it like in the Dining Commons?

A.When you enter the DC, you will be required to swipe your Owl Card and insert your hand in the hand reader for scanning.  You can also pay for your meal before you go through to the dining area. If you are dining with a guest, you may use Meal Plan Dollars, Dining Dollars, Owl Cash, cash, credit/debit card, or guest meals to pay for any meals other than your own. Once inside the DC, you’ll find a buffet-style, all-you-care-to-eat restaurant. There are multiple food service stations, each serving a different type of food—pizza, a full service deli, stir fry (for breakfast we’ll create an omelet to order for you), salad bar, grill (smoothies and fried eggs to order in the morning) and vegan stations, as well as the “main entree” meal.  Feel free to mix and match—take what you like, as much as you need, and please feel free to go back for more if you’re still hungry.  Watch for special event meals in the DC throughout the semester!

As a sustainability practice, we no longer use trays. We ask you to be considerate of your fellow diners by leaving your table clean and bringing your plates, other dining implements, and waste to the moving racks in the “Dish Wash and Tray Drop” area as you leave the DC.  For your personal health and safety, you must wear shoes and a shirt at all times in the Dining Commons and Food Court areas.

Q. If I run out of meals, when can I eat again?

A. Meal plans provide a maximum of three meals per day running Sunday through Saturday each week. For example, if you are out of meals at brunch on Saturday, you will have a new set of meals for the week on Sunday morning. If you’ve had three meals on any given day, you will need to wait until morning to access your next meal. You may, however, use Meal Plan Dollars, Dining Dollars, Owl Cash, Guest Meals, cash, or credit/debit cards to purchase additional meals in the DC. You also have the option to use these payment methods (with the exception of Gues Meals) to purchase menu items or snacks at other campus dining locations (Hoot-n-Scoot, Lloyd’s Marketplace, NOC Sizzler, Bean & Bagel Express).

Q. Can a friend use my meal card to eat one of my meals?

A. No. The meal plan is just for you, so choose carefully the plan that suits your needs.

Q. Can I bring a friend to the Dining Commons for a meal?

A. Yes. All meal plans, except the 5-meal plan, include two guest meal passes per semester to be used at any meal. Your guest may also join you by paying cash for an "All-You-Care-to-Eat" meal. Your friend cannot come in just to sit with you. Because this is an "All-You-Care-to-Eat" facility, we cannot monitor non-paying guests or guests who bring their own bag lunches.

Q. If I don't have time to eat, can food be taken from the Dining Commons?

A. The Hoot-n-Scoot and Night Owl Café Sizzlers are available for meal to-go options—you may also use Meal Plan Dollars, Dining Dollars, Owl Cash, cash or debit/credit cards to purchase menu and snack items at Lloyd’s Marketplace or the Bean & Bagel. The Dining Commons is a dine-in only "all-you-care-to-eat" facility.   You may take a cookie, an ice cream or a piece of fruit to-go.  So you may continue to enjoy your dining experience, please leave all service ware in the DC.  Food items that are taken from the Dining Commons will be confiscated and disposed of so please consider the wastefulness of your actions. Violations of this policy will be considered stealing and will be dealt with as such. Please consult the KSC Student Handbook if you have questions regarding this policy.

Q. What if I don't have time to come to the Dining Commons for lunch or dinner?

A. The Hoot-n-Scoot and Night Owl Cafe Sizzler are your meal "to-go" options—you may also use Meal Plan Dollars, Dining Dollars, Owl Cash, cash or debit/credit cards to purchase menu and snack items at Lloyd’s or the Bean & Bagel. Check the Hours Page to see when they are open.

Q. What if I'm hungry and only want a snack or beverage?

A. The Dining Commons is an "All-You-Care-to-Eat" facility, and your meal plan only provides up to 3 meals (visits) per day. If you get hungry between meals and need a snack, you may use Meal Plan Dollars, Dining Dollars, Owl Cash, cash, or credit/debit cards to purchase snack items at the Hoot-n-Scoot, or Lloyd's Marketplace and the Bean & Bagel in the Student Center.

Q. Can I get meals if I am sick?
A. Absolutely—you need nourishment to get better!  So if you are feeling under the weather, please contact your Resident Assistant or Director to make arrangements with Dining Services for a Sick Meal. These takeout meals are only available during regularly scheduled meal times in the DC, so please work with your RA or RD to ensure you get the meals you need and the kind of food you want.
Q. Do you accommodate food allergies and special dietary needs?
A. No problem! Our Campus Dining Services Program can accommodate your special dietary requirements. We already have a 'No Gluten Nook' for students who have gluten sensitivity.  For more information or to discuss your individual dietary needs, please contact our Registered Dietitian, Rebecca Briggs, at 603.358.2653.
Q. I'm student teaching, how can I use my meal plan when I'm away from campus all day?
A. Our "Bagged Lunch" program was designed with student teachers and interns in mind. It allows you to take full advantage of your meal plan when you need to be away from campus during meal times. Please click here for the details.
Q. What happens if I lose my Owl Card?
A. Lost or stolen Owl Cards should be replaced as soon as possible to prevent someone other than you from using the access or dining privileges coded on your Owl Card. Should this happen to you, please stop by or call the Owl Card Office at 603.358.2673. You may also report your Owl Card lost or found online.   After hours, or when the Owl Card Office is closed, Campus Safety can create a replacement Owl Card for you. For details regarding options and fees for lost card replacement, please click here. We do not issue temporary cards.
Q. Can I/how do I change meal plans?
A. All meal plans are ordered and changed with the online Meal Plan Enrollment/Change Request. Once you have selected your meal plan you may only increase it and you must make the transaction online. Students living off campus have the option of reducing or canceling their meal plan only during the first 30 days of the semester. Please call the Owl Card Office at x8-2673 or visit Dining Plans if you need more information.

Enrollments and Changes typically go into effect by 4PM of the next business day. You can check the status of your meal plan online anytime at owlcard.netcardmanager.com

Please keep in mind that your Meal Plan is contracted for the Academic Year. Therefore your fall meal plan will automatically renew if your housing status remains the same for the spring semester. If your housing status changes (ie: you move off campus, study away for a semester, or change residence), your meal plan may need to be re-established, so please check with the Owl Card Office if you have trouble accessing your meal plan or if you have any questions regarding its status.
Q. Do my unused meals carry over from week to week?
A. No. The meal plan resets weekly to a new balance. Any unused meals are forfeited.
Q. How can I get more Meal Plan Dollars?

A. Although it is not possible add Meal Plan Dollars to your Owl Card account, you may add Dining Dollars , which is used in the same way and at the same places as Meal Plan Dollars. Or you may add Owl Cash, which is used in all the same dining locations plus snack & beverage vending machines on campus and at the concessions stand at KSC athletic events. Dining Dollars and Owl Cash deposits may be made online with a credit or debit card at owlcard.netcardmanager.com. Owl Cash is also accepted at snack and beverage vending machines on campus, and at the concessions stand at KSC athletic events. Dining Dollars and Owl Cash accounts to not expire. They remain on your Owl Card as long as you are affiliated with KSC--as student, faculty or staff.
